DATE OF SPELLING BEE: May 19th  and 20th
PLACE: Instituto Miguel Ángel de Occidente, Guadalajara, Jal.


PREVIOUS IMPORTANT DATES:
November 28th, 2008: IMAO will send to each principal a Spelling Bee package.
March 27th, 2009: Each school will send the name of participants and teachers to the host school. ç


PARTICIPANTS:

  1. All CCVI students taking English in any of our schools may participate whether bilingual or not.
  2. Three students from each grade (5th and 6th) selected internally by each of their schools.
  3. It would be a good idea to choose a runner up for each one who will take part only if your candidates are not available.

JUDGES:

  1. There will be three judges all external to CCVI Schools (president, secretary, and flag official)
  2. One representative from Houghton Mifflin- Harcourt
  3. CCVI Sister from the U.S.
  4. English Principal of a bilingual school from Gdl.

 

  1. An additional judge may be on call if necessary.
  2. A CCVI Sister from the U.S. or Mexico will preside the judges.
  3. The judge may disqualify any contestant who ignores a request to start spelling or any other indication.
  4. Any other situations that could rise at the moment would have to be solved by all the judges' opinion.
  5. The judges are in complete control of the competition. Their decision shall be final on all questions.
  6. Judges cannot make any movements to show approval or disapproval on the students' spelling.
  7. The judges will be presented to the schools on February 23rd
  8. The schools will have until February 27th to express their concerns.

            
PRONOUNCER
1. Two pronouncers will be chosen by the host school.

  • From Houghton Mifflin- Harcourt
  • From some other institution.

2.   He or she must be external to the CCVI schools.

3.   The official pronouncers will be presented to the schools on February 23rd•

4.   The schools will have until February 27th to express their concerns.

THECNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

  1. Four microphones, two need to be a stand alone for the student spellers according to their height, one for the pronouncer, and one at the judges table.
  2. Flags: 1 GREEN and 1 RED (about letter size in a triangle shape).
  3. Two sets of Styrofoam balls with 2 containers: like round bingo, with a number, the pronouncer will then pronounce the word with that number and the student will spell it.
    • The total number of balls will be the same as the list of words- both for the original round and the championship words.
    • One container will be next to the microphone, the other next to the pronouncer, one usher will take the ball to the pronouncer once the student speller has picked it.
  1. Number tags, for student participants to facilitate the judges’ work.
  2. Timer (1 minute).

 

AWARDS

  1. Participation: all student participants will receive a participation diploma.
  2. Winners: the first three places of each category will receive a diploma and a trophy.
  3. Host school will elaborate the diplomas and trophies.
  4. Judges and pronouncers will receive a token of our appreciation and a diploma.
